Sawn or Split, what to choose?

Generally speaking, sawn stakes are cheaper than split stakes because they require less volume for their manufacture and their palletization. While these stakes require more significant investments and more specialized labour, the price of wood and transport makes the difference. The planting of sawn stakes is also easily mechanizable (the markers, for example, are almost always sawn). This easeness is explained by the lesser weight and greater straightness of these stakes.

For those wary to add a technical aspect to their plantation, sawn stakes give a greater appereance of uniformity. Split stakes, on the other hand, present a more traditional aspect which is in tune with a return to an image of tradition, impregnating our times.

In terms of longevity, split stakes are more reliable because the fibres of the wood are not cut so agents of putrefaction have less facility to penetrate the wood than in sawn stakes.

A plantation planned for a long duration in a quality environment will have to prefer split stakes. Even though they are more expensive, the difference will be smoothed by both its longevity and the image presented.

Sawn stakes will do for plantations in lesser quality-environments, planned for a shorter time or in the process of partial replacement.
